Hi there,
I've been using Menalto Photo Gallery for my photos, and I'm not that happy with it. I've seen a similar possibility on several different sites, but I don't know what it's called or where to find it (or even if it's downloadable software, like the Menalto Photo Gallery). You can see it at work on this site - click on the photo, and you're presented with a photo all by itself, and a "Go Back" link. Much more what I'm looking for. Yes, I could do it using HTML but that would be reeeeeeally time consuming. I'd ask the guy who owns that site, but he and his wife just had a baby and I'm thinking he isn't going to have a whole lot of free time. Thanks much for any suggestions, -Sage Saturday, November 27

This week on CBC Radio3 Davin Risk's photos are featured on CBC Radio 3's website. His group of photos are of "Indirect Objects"
Davin Risk is always on the hunt for traces of the past exposed in the present. His photos may look devoid of life, but it's there like a footprint left behind in the snow. Click on the plus sign at the top right corner of their page to advance. Congrats Davin.

Hello, hello!
Long time blogger, first time photoblogger, making a short introduction. There. That's it. Actually I'd like to ask if anyone here has some good digital photography tutorial links they could forward my way. I'm using a Canon G5 and not too familiar with all the settings it has to offer [I upgraded from an HP 315 point and shoot]. Monday, November 22

I'm feeling a little famous today.
Posting photography online, you always hope that your photos will be seen and enjoyed by people. But I have been taken aback twice in two days now. I've been spotted. Yesterday evening, I was Pikto picking up pictures when one of the girls behind the counter mentioned that she found my site by looking up "West Camera". I was strangely embarassed and amused and walked out of the store with a smile on my face. Today, like 5 minutes ago, I recieved a phone call from Michael at Merkle camera. I figured he was calling me about the lens I had on hold at their store. Instead, he was calling me to tell me that he found one of my Guildwood Inn photos online. I'm deeply amused. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, in the past I have been spotted by a couple local singer/songwriters who were familar with my work, as well as someone in an audience that recognized Jay from pictures that I had posted of him online. Have you ever been spotted in public? Wednesday, November 17

I 'm not sure if it's been considered or discussed but I think it
would be cool to publish a book of Toronto Photobloggers work. Each photoblogger could contribute a few pieces and with so many great photobloggers here it would make a nice book. I have no idea what the cost would be or if we could get a printer to sposor the project in which case we could have the proceeds or part of the proceeds go to a Toronto charity. A group exhibition at a gallery of printed work by Toronto Photobloggers would be cool too. Just an idea.... Charles

JANIETA EYRE
November 12, 2004 - Ryerson University, Lecture Hall LIB-72 7:30 p.m., Free - show up early Toronto-based photographer and filmmaker Janieta Eyre has quickly gained notoriety in the contemporary art world with her surreal portraits of herself as twins. Starkly graphic, her carefully composed photos explore notions of the uncanny and the double in a playful yet disquieting fashion. With the 2000 Lady Lazarus series, Eyre used 19th century spirit photography as a reference point for her explorations of death, resurrection, and genetic engineering. Drawing inspiration from a dream and the series title from a poem by Sylvia Plath, the colour and selenium-toned black and white images of the series "seemed to exist in a place at once the past and the future." What I Haven't Told You , Eyre's current body of work, continues her exploration of the theatrically staged photograph and the affinity of photography for phantom presences which can be sensed but not seen. Eyre has also recently made the jump from photography to filmmaking with her first short film, entitled So Now We Understand Each Other . Based on a short story she wrote about a woman who believes her two dolls are her children, the film continues Eyre's exploration of motherhood as a complex and strange human relationship. Janieta Eyre was born in London , England and was educated in Toronto where she received a philosophy degree from the University of Toronto . She also studied journalism part-time at Ryerson University and photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design. She lives and works in Toronto and is represented by the Christopher Cutts Gallery (Toronto) and Diane Farris Gallery (Vancouver). Eyre has exhibited widely in Italy, Germany, Iceland, the United States and across Canada and was recently invited to participate in the Kwanju Biennale in South Korea. Eyre has been featured in several recent publications including Hive Magazine, Collezione Edge, and Faking Death and recently won a "Shine" award for Best Digital Imagery from Horizon Zero. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (Ottawa), Microsoft (New York), and the National Gallery of Iceland (Reykjavik). http://www.dianefarrisgallery.com/artist/eyre/ Kodak Lecture Series Thursday, November 11

Can you believe we have been running this site for just over a month now. Time flies when you are having fun.
Just wanted to leave a few notes on here for folks to digest. Also here are some numbers to crunch on. So where do we go from here. Personally I would like to see more people posting more often. If everyone posted some content once a week, every week, it would be more than enough to get the ball rolling. Seen a new product? post it. Have a spare picture? post it in the photoblog. Like someone elses picture? post it in the noteworthy section Really digging someones site? post it in the spotlight section Heard about a new show? post it in the exhibit section Wednesday, November 10

This week's Lens Day challenge is Gyration. For anyone who was at Joey's Party this past weekend, there were definite opportunities of capturing photos of me gyrating both during Kareoke as well as on the dance floor with three hot women. Unfortunately I don't think any of the photobloggers present caught any of those shots.
Add you Gyration links in the comments.

Back in the summer, Chris from Free Delivery posted a series of slides that he found in a garage sale [1][2][3][4][5]. A couple of minutes ago, a co-worker reminder me of a site called Found Magazine. It's a site that collects notes and photos and other lost items and posts them online. It's always amazing what you might find laying around.

I'm off to the REM concert tonight down at the Hummingbird Center (20 years after I last saw them open for The English Beat in 1984), and I see they have a "no cameras" policy for this event.
What kind of luck have people had with cameras at concerts around Toronto? Does it tend to be a band decision? A venue decision? Have you got into concerts with a camera, then kicked out for using it? What about smaller places, like the Horseshoe? Outdoor venues like the Molson Amphiteatre? (like Sam's pictures of Iron Maiden ) I'd be interested in hearing your experiences, as well as checking out your favorite shots... Tuesday, November 9

I dropped off some film at Pikto yesterday and found out that they are having their Free Hi-Res CD promotion again. Basically, with any roll process and printed at Pikto this month, you will receive your pictures scanned for free.

What is hot in the news right now, this hour? And how can a view that pictorally in 100 images or less?
Check out 10x10, it defines the times in pictures and words. 10x10™ ('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10x10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, stitched together side by side, form a continuous patchwork tapestry of human life.
