Hi all,
Just wanted to share some news about exciting blog related initiatives happening at the AGO. I've been working with the gallery to start embracing the blogging community in the city as media. As a first initiative, a group of bloggers - photo, video, podcast & others - will be reporting from the opening launch of the Frank Gehry exhibit next Tuesday. The group will have almost total access and I'm hoping some wonderfully creative work will be produced. There's some more info here: http://singer.to/2006/02/09/blogging-at-the-ago/ As well, you may want check out the AGO blog: http://www.artmatters.ca/ Cheers! One reason I decided to start a photo-blog was as motivation to explore parts of Toronto I wouldn't otherwise visit. Recently I've found two online lists that have got me out shooting more public art in the city:
"Toronto Sculptures" BreadCrumbs path (and others) through Flickr You may have noticed these graphics in Flickr comments: You can use these comments to travel through a 'Journey' of pictures. There is a "Toronto Sculptures" journey with 155 entries (as of Nov 10th). There are other BreadCrumb paths related to Toronto, including one related to fountains with 62 entries (as of Nov 10th). Dittwald photo collection of Toronto sculptures The Dittwald photo collection of Toronto sculptures has 320 sculptures listed. You can also find sculptures by artist name, general area (High Park, U. of T., etc...), female artists, etc...I have a bunch of pictures from Mount Pleasant cemetery, for instance and I managed to learn more about a few of the sculptures there from this site. Check out these sites and let us know if you post any interesting pictures of public art in the city! Tuesday, July 5

Check out the new and improved Photojunkie if you haven't already done so. It is now "a blog, photoblog and online zine" and well worth a look. Rannie is the founder of the Toronto Area Photoblogs site, as well as the GTAbloggers, and a great photographer.
More than just photos, Rannie also has a 'Spotlight' section (currently an interview with Antony Hare), and interesting blog entries about photography, Toronto, and photography in Toronto. Its great to have Photojunkie back, Rannie! Thursday, March 31

Sometimes the world of DIY (Do It Yourself) amazes me. And then sometimes I wonder if some people have too much time on their hands. Maybe I'm just jealous and wished that I thought of such tricks myself. Check out Digihack. It's a site devoted to DIY projects for the frugal digital photographer. [via Jon]

Back in the summer, Chris from Free Delivery posted a series of slides that he found in a garage sale [1][2][3][4][5]. A couple of minutes ago, a co-worker reminder me of a site called Found Magazine. It's a site that collects notes and photos and other lost items and posts them online. It's always amazing what you might find laying around.

What is hot in the news right now, this hour? And how can a view that pictorally in 100 images or less?
Check out 10x10, it defines the times in pictures and words. 10x10™ ('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10x10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, stitched together side by side, form a continuous patchwork tapestry of human life. Last night, I officially started my Christmas shopping. In the past, I use to do all my shopping on the couple of days preceding Christmas, but as I have grown older and wiser, I've found that starting at the beginning of November is much easier on my sanity and pocketbook.
Now, are you having difficulty finding the perfect gift for somebody who already has it all? Why not purchase them a subscription to Heather Powazak Champ's 2005 Print Club. Subscriptions are availble for a full 12 months, or you can also opt for a half subscription, getting prints for 6 month (every other month). In addition, every subscriber will receive a 11 x 17" print of their choice from Heather's archives for their birthday.

Are you down about the turn out of this week's election in the USA? You are probably not as down as 49% of Americans. Check out SorryEverybody.com. It's a photo site where Americans can express their message to the rest of the world.

Back in September, I wrote a quick review of Mark Hancock's site PhotoJournalism on the photoblogs.org blog. It seems he has inspired a few other PJ's to come out of the woodwork.
PJ - The Rookie Season On my search for other photojournalist sites, I found America Is.... It's the blog of a freelance photojournalist traveling across the US on a mission to hit all 48 contiguous states and record personal stories along the way. And of course I couldn't write a post on photojournalism without including a link to our very own Zoran Milich who runs the site, I'll Call you Zee. He has travelled all around the world, on assignment for different media organizations. If you haven't done so already, check out the Zee at work section of his site as well as his published Children's books. Other sites of interest. Phillippe Roy - Photojournaliste (On a related interesting note. When I first visited Mark's site, he constantly referred to photojournalists as PJ's. Of course I thought he was talking about photojunkie's. I suppose it's six of one or half a dozen of the other. ) Friday, October 8

Do you ever wonder if what you are doing is right or wrong? I think we all second geuss ourselves from time to time when it comes to photography. Now you don't need to second geuss. Here is Viceland.com's lust of DOs and DON'Ts of Photography. If in doubt, just point and shoot. Link via Heather Thursday, October 7
